About Me
Susan Barnes
I am a life long artist who has always believed in the healing benefits of making art. I fell in love with art making in junior high when an enthusiastic art teacher took me and few others under her wing. I have over 20 years of clinical experience addressing a wide variety of mental health challenges including stress, depression, trauma, anxiety, grief and loss, and family relationships. In addition to “Art About You,” I have a private practice in counseling where I provide psychotherapy, clinical supervision, and/or coaching services to my clients. I have a speciality in working with trauma and approach my work through a trauma informed lens. I have led art therapy groups in an in-patient hospital setting, a children’s occupational therapy clinic and in private practice.
I received my Master’s Degree in Marriage and Family Therapy and Art Therapy from Notre Dame de Namur University in California, and my Bachelor’s degree in Communications from the University of California, Santa Barbara. In addition to being an Art Therapist, I am a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor (LCPC) and Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT) in the State of Idaho. I am also an EMDRIA Certified Therapist in EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing).
